District continues mask-wearing protocol

Dear Lion Country,

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott lifted the state-wide mask order effective March 10, 2021. Included in this order, he addressed public schools stating “to operate as provided by, and under the minimum standard found in, guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency.”

The close contact definition found in the Texas Education Agency guidance remains unchanged and further states that masks shall be worn over the nose and mouth. This document is located on the Livingston ISD website.

We appreciate the effort of students, faculty, staff, and community that has resulted in a successful school year thus far.  Moving forward, we will continue the policies located in our planning forward document, which includes the masking of students and adults in our facilities and activities. The health condition is a fluid matter, and we will continue to monitor it through the summer. We hope that with herd immunity and vaccines, the agency's close contact definition will be changed, and the next school year will be different from what we have endured.

Sincerely,
Dr. Brent Hawkins
