Scholarships and Financial Aid

In addition to the Educational and Training Voucher (ETV) and College Tuition and Fee Waiver programs, current and former Texas foster youth have several other resources for financial aid for higher education, including these important programs:

C. Ed Davis PAL Scholarship

The C. Ed Davis PAL scholarship is for youth formerly in foster care with DFPS. This scholarship was named in honor of C. Ed Davis who, in April 2004, retired as Deputy Director, Legal Services. DFPS is offering scholarships of $1,000 per academic year, awarded in increments of $500 per semester. These scholarships are for basic non-tuition needs for students interested in the field of law and majoring in government, political science, history, or other pre-law fields. For more information, download the  C. Ed Davis PAL Scholarship Letter & Application
To assist you with funds needed to continue your education, DFPS is offering scholarships of $1,000 per academic year, awarded in increments of $500 per semester.  These scholarships are for basic non-tuition needs for students interested in the field of law and majoring in government, political science, history, or other pre-law fields.  Scholarships will be awarded to two (2) students each academic year and are subject to the availability of funds.

SFA study-abroad program “Discovering Business”
The first (and only) study-abroad program at SFA is open to incoming freshmen.
"Discovering Business" was created to introduce business to current non-business majors and incoming freshmen (regardless of major). Our goal is to expose students to the fundamentals of business and the potential for business to benefit people and also the environment. The first destination for the program will be Costa Rica (August 8-14, 2023). The itinerary includes visits to a coffee farm and a pineapple farm, a chocolate-making tour, and a cooking class. Scholarships are available to help defray the program cost.
You can learn more about the program here: https://sfa-abroad.via-trm.com/program_brochure/15255

Though the travel portion of the course will take place a couple of weeks before the fall 2023 semester begins, the course will be listed as a fall 2023 course. As such, our study-abroad participants will be able to take advantage of the university's tuition cap. So, our students can either (1) tack on our course to the 12 or more hours they are already taking in the fall but only pay tuition for 12 hours or (2) take 9 hours + our course and pay for 12 hours of tuition.
